Former Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham has revealed the messages he has got from Reece James to come back to Stamford Bridge soon.
Abraham, who was signed by AS Roma from Chelsea back in the summer of 2021 for a fee of around £34m, has been linked with a move back to the Premier League, with Manchester United interested in him. Fellow Champions League contenders Newcastle United are also keeping an eye on the England striker.
A couple of months ago, it was reported in Football.London that Chelsea have a buy-back clause of £70.3m that will be active this July onwards. Whether the Blues are interested in signing him back, only time will tell.
Here’s what Abraham revealed about the conversations he has had with James (h/t Evening Standard):
“Everything I knew was Chelsea apart from a few loan moves, but even now I think it was the right time to leave. I was ready to take a step forward in my career, I didn’t want to be considered a youngster or a player who had just come from the academy. It was time for me to spread my wings.
“I still talk to so many Chelsea players, James always tells me to come back. We grew up together and have known each other for years – players like [Mason] Mount, [Declan] Rice and [Eddie] Nketiah.”
Abraham’s time at Roma has been a bit up and down. After doing extremely well last season, his numbers have come down in the current campaign. If we look at his numbers there, the 25-year-old has got 36 goals and 12 assists in 106 appearances in all competitions.
Now, Chelsea are desperate for a goal scorer before the start of next season. We all have seen how badly this team needs a player who can score 20+ goals per season consistently. Whether Abraham can be that man, there is a question mark to that statement.
The Guardian has reported that the Blues are looking to make an ambitious move to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen with the incoming boss Mauricio Pochettino keen on getting him.
Chelsea will also have to make a decision about the future of Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian will come back from his loan spell at Inter Milan. Will Pochettino want him or allow his exit to happen this summer? Only time will tell us that answer.
