“Too many players”- Ruud Gullit sounds out Chelsea warning regarding over-bloated squad

Ruud Gullit warns Mauricio Pochettino about the bloated squad at Chelsea

Mauricio Pochettino has been warned by Ruud Gullit that there are several players who have seen less playing time and could disturb the locker room as he prepares to take over as the new Chelsea manager.

The Blues now have a bloated squad and will need to trim it in the upcoming summer window. Whether it be loaning out young players or selling the out-of-favour ones, we cannot afford not to cut down.

Pochettino is expected to succeed interim manager Frank Lampard as Chelsea’s next permanent manager at the end of the season. The Argentine will need to get to work soon in order to provide the club with direction and a long-term vision.

More so, the Argentine coach will have numerous tasks on his plate, from resolving contract issues to determining which players deserve to be at Chelsea. Given the staggering number of options available to him, we hope he arrives in London well-prepared.

According to The Mirror (h/t Express), Gullit believes the number of players is an issue to ponder over. He believes it is an issue that needs proper addressing in the summer.

“There are too many players. Too many good players How many are there? Thirty? If you’ve been bought by Chelsea, then you are at a level and you want to play.”

“But they will complain if they are not on the team. The players who aren’t playing are going to talk badly. That’s normal. But if Chelsea win, they have nothing to say. They shut up. And now you have players who are in the team on Sunday and out of it on Wednesday. They are moaning, too.”

Gullit has made a significant statement here: Pochettino will have to deal with more issues internally than just getting Chelsea back to winning form. But surely, the Argentine would have known of it before he accepted the job.

Chelsea have more disgruntled players than happy players since many of them are interested in leaving and a couple of them have contract issues that need to be fixed.

More Chelsea News:

Quality signings must be made to strengthen the squad for next season. After failing to qualify for the Champions League, we must also balance our wages. These are issues that the Argentine coach will address, and it will take longer than a season to restore normalcy.
