Rangers are pondering a move for Chelsea defender Dujon Sterling who will be out of contract once his loan spell ends at Stoke City, as per the Scottish Sun.
Dujon, who is a Chelsea academy product, was promoted to the senior team in 2017 but made a short cameo in 2017 when he came as a substitute in Chelsea’s 5-1 win over Nottingham Forest (h/t BBC). Since then, he has been spending loan spells at different clubs.
The 21-year-old has spent his loan stints at Coventry City, Wigan Athletic, and Blackpool and he is playing for Stoke City, where he has made 26 appearances in the Championship.
Now the former Chelsea manager Michael Beale wants the Blues youngster at Rangers ahead of the new campaign, which could help the 21-year-old develop into an excellent right-back.
However, during his time at Blackpool, he mostly played as a left-back, but Sterlig can also operate as a centre-back, and if joins Rangers then under Beale’s setup he can operate from right-back.
Meanwhile, the youngster’s return to Chelsea looks unlikely given the Blues have found a backup for Reece James when they signed Malo Gusto from Olympique Lyonnais.
And on top of that, the former Wigan player has been injury-ridden, which has also impacted his career. 21 is a make-or-break age for the player where he has to take a call over his future before it starts to go downhill.
It seems unlikely Chelsea will keep him next season, and even if they do he will barely get game-time as the next manager may prefer Gusto over him. James will undoubtedly be the starting right-back for all the matches, barring his injuries.
So, it would be better for the 21-year-old to be under the former Chelsea manager where he can develop into a top right-back and maybe other Premier League clubs could sign him in the future. It remains to be
