A View From The Bridge

“Does he do enough?”- Paul Scholes questions efficacy of exit-linked Chelsea star

Paul Scholes raises his doubt on what Mason Mount offers amidst the rumours of his Chelsea exit

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes questions whether Chelsea star Mason Mount does enough as a player amidst rumours linking him away from Stamford Bridge.

A couple of days, Daily Mail reported that United are ready to make a £55m bid to sign Mount in the summer window. Liverpool and Arsenal are also interested in the player, whose contract at Chelsea expires next year.

David Ornstein of the Athletic (subscription required) reported that the 24-year-old is leaning towards a move to Old Trafford if the Blues eventually sell him.

On that note, here’s what Scholes said when asked about the rumours linking Mount to United (h/t PL Productions, via Metro):

“Look, I like Mason Mount… does he do enough? I thought when he first came onto the scene, ‘have got a new Frank Lampard?’. I know we talked before about not comparing players to these types.

“But I expected him to score goals, a lot more goals, in big games, to win you games, he hasn’t really kicked on from there.”

These quotes tell us why Scholes has been a failed manager after an illustrious playing career. He is basing his judgement on Mount on the basis of what he has seen this season.

In the last two years, Mount was probably Chelsea’s best player. He scored 17 goals and assisted 16 in 72 league appearances in the previous two seasons. Those returns are very good for a player who has been used in a lot of positions across the midfield and forward line.

Moreover, the England international is more than just a goal contributor though. His work off the ball is impressive and he is an excellent adaptor of situations. There was a reason why a top manager like Thomas Tuchel persisted with him in starting XIs.

More Chelsea News:

All of the talks are for a player who may not even be a Chelsea player come next season. But, if a United legend is disrespecting Mount for what he has done so far in his career, it is better he stays in West London and continues the good work here.
