Paul Merson has urged Chelsea to appoint Mauricio Pochettino as he believes Frank Lampard is not able to handle the situation
Paul Merson has pushed Chelsea to hire Mauricio Pochettino because he thinks Frank Lampard is unable to handle the predicament at the club, where they have lost their first five games under him.
As the team’s interim manager, Lampard has yet to record a victory, and during that time, they have conceded nine goals while scoring just once.
The team has not won since defeating Leicester City 3-1, and they are now in the bottom half of the standings, with 39 points. An eight-game winless run across competitions is hopeless for a club like us.
Pochettino is now the clear favourite to take over as Chelsea’s permanent manager beginning with the 2019–20 campaign.
And Merson said that the situation is growing worse under the 44-year-old and that the club should hire Pochettino as quickly as possible. (h/t Daily Mail), In an interview with Sky Sports, Merson stated:
‘’He needs to get in lively. No disrespect to Frank; get in and sort out what he’s going to do next season. You don’t want to get in there and see the players on July 1 and try to sort it out. Before you know it, it’s August, and you’re close to transfer deadline day, and you’ve got five players you need to get rid of, and then suddenly Chelsea are the busiest team on deadline day.’’
Merson is correct in saying that we now need a seasoned manager who can effectively manage the situation since, under Frank Lampard, we are currently sinking in the pit and, if we don’t win our remaining games, we may be in danger of being relegated.
It is best to sort out the managerial situation soon. Poch could come in as soon as possible, assess the team for himself, and then make a call on who should stay and who should go.

Frank Lampard’s arrival has proven to be a mistake, in all honesty. He just doesn’t seem cut out for the job. That is why he was fired the first time and that is why Everton parted ways with him too. He isn’t ready for the big time right now and it is best to hand over the keys to Pochettino as soon as possible.
