According to French media, OGC Nice are planning to hire former Chelsea manager Graham Potter as their manager next season.
According to Nice-Matin, (h/t Express), the 47-year-old is now a serious contender to take over as manager of the French giants. This comes amidst news that the French club is ready to part ways with current head coach Didier Digard.
The Blues fired the former Brighton boss this season after a succession of bad results. Potter’s final match as Chelsea manager was a 2-0 loss to Aston Villa, but his dismissal cost the club £13 million. When Leicester City fired Brendan Rodgers, they approached Potter but he preferred to take a break from management.
Meanwhile, the Blues are still looking for Potter’s permanent successor, and Mauricio Pochettino is close to being named the club’s next head coach for the upcoming season.
Chelsea are currently playing under interim manager Frank Lampard, who will leave the club next season. West Londoners have four more games before their season comes to an end, and on Saturday they will play Nottingham Forest.
If Potter agrees to become their manager, Nice will have a pragmatic manager at the wheel. The 47-year-old is definitely a brilliant manager, despite his disastrous time at Chelsea overshadowing his excellent spells at Brighton and Swansea, when he transformed both clubs into relevant teams.
It’s a shame things didn’t work out for him at Stamford Bridge, but he shouldn’t take all the responsibility; our owner’s bad decision-making and hasty termination of Thomas Tuchel have pitched the club into dire straits.
However, at Nice, he can start anew in a different league because it will be less demanding, and he can rebuild his profile there.
