Chelsea target Victor Osimhen to be offered a new contract by Napoli
As per Calciomercato (h/t Daily Mail), Napoli are set to offer a new contract to striker Victor Osimhen amidst interest from Chelsea and other clubs. The new deal will include a release clause of £138million.
Apart from Chelsea, Manchester United are interested in signing the Nigerian international. AS Monaco and French champions Paris-Saint Germain are also in the race
Osimhen’s goals and performances were one of the main reasons why Napoli lifted the Scudetto after a long gap. His partnership with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was phenomenal. The duo were ruthless and tough to defend in the final third.
If we look at the numbers, the former Lille striker has got 30 goals and five assists in 38 games in all competitions. Those are incredible numbers. It is not far behind Erling Haaland in terms of goals per game.
So, one can understand why Napoli are so desperate to keep him and offer that new deal. If he stays on in the summer, their title defence and doing well in the Champions League may depend on him once again.
Coming to Chelsea, out of all the things that went wrong this season, the lack of a goal scorer was hurting this team the most. For example, watch the game against Manchester United again and we can see a striker feasting the number of chances created. Instead, the likes of Kai Havertz and Mykaylo Mudryk kept missing easy chances.
With Mauricio Pochettino now officially appointed as the manager, he would want a number nine ahead of next season. His system relies on having a powerful and quick striker. Osimhen has attributes to be that player under the Argentine at Stamford Bridge.

So, if the club gets an opportunity, they should try and lure him away from Napoli before a new contract is put on the table. At 24, he is only getting started and he could become a legend here at Chelsea. He has all the raw minerals to achieve that.
