Mauricio Pochettino needs a ‘miracle’ to keep hold of Chelsea star Mason Mount amid Liverpool and Arsenal interest
Incoming Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino will need a ‘miracle’ if he wants to retain Chelsea star Mason Mount, who has been linked with Arsenal and Liverpool.
This is according to a club source who told the Sun:
“It feels like it is too late now for Mason. Pochettino is good but he can’t work miracles. If he had been brought in when Chelsea sacked Thomas Tuchel in September then maybe it would be a different story. But in ten months there hasn’t been any resolution and other clubs want him. Good luck to Poch and Mason but we’re not hopeful.”
Mount’s deal expires at the end of next season. Chelsea, however, would part ways with him this summer as they do not want to lose him on a free transfer.
That makes sense. The 24-year-old is one of the finest midfielders in the Premier League in his age bracket. The fact that he is a homegrown player always helps his case when a Premier League team comes around sniffing.
A painful Chelsea exit on the cards
It would be a shame to lose a player who has been associated with the Blues since the age of six. The fact that he could move to Arsenal or Liverpool would make a potential exit even more painful.
It is hard to imagine Mount in rival colours but perhaps that is what it is coming to. Pochettino would be a safe appointment by the club – a manager who could garner respect from the dressing room due to his experience and achievements.
But even the Argentine’s imminent arrival in SW6 is not believed to be helpful in Mount’s case. It seems that the England international is headed for the exit doors. A sale to Arsenal wouldn’t be anything new as we just sold Jorginho to them in January.
But no Chelsea player has directly left the senior to join Liverpool for a transfer fee since Daniel Sturridge in January 2013 His versatility and quality made him a dangerous player in the final third.

It is worth mentioning that he can also play in central midfield, which is perhaps why Liverpool are so keen to sign him, given their need to revamp their ageing and injury-ridden midfield. Let’s hope we can at least rake in a handsome sum for the former Derby County playmaker.
