Chelsea loanee Joao Felix has stated that he has enjoyed life at the club following his departure from Atletico Madrid on a temporary basis in the January transfer window.
The Portuguese international’s arrival at Stamford Bridge was met with huge expectations. While Felix has not set the world alight, he has performed admirably, scoring three goals in 13 Premier League games.
Despite Atletico Madrid’s willingness to transfer the 23-year-old, his future in West London remains unknown. The Spanish club will demand £87 million for his services, an amount that Chelsea have shown little interest in matching.
Chelsea also face competition for Felix’s signature from the Premier League. Newcastle United were said to be eager to pay his valuation, but Felix denied those rumours by commenting on social media.
And now it appears the former Benfica attacker is loving his time at Chelsea and according to the Daily Mail, he has indicated that an extended stay at Stamford Bridge would be a welcome development.
”I don’t yet know my future. But these four or five months, I loved it. It’s a top club, and everyone in the club was very good to me. My teammates are unbelievable. I really like to be here.”
Felix has made it plain that he enjoys his time here and would undoubtedly be a valuable asset to us next season. He has proven his abilities in a short period of time, and at just 23 will only get better. There is every reason to believe he can develop into a major player at Chelsea.
For now, we are yet to make a decision on the player’s future. Given what we have seen of him so far, Felix could prove to be an invaluable resource for years to come.
Let us not get our hopes up and instead wait for the club to make an assessment of what lies ahead. While we have not been frugal in the transfer market at all, what we need is direction.
