“He will return to Chelsea”- Inter Milan CEO makes definitive claim about Romelu Lukaku’s future

Inter Milan chief confirms Romelu Lukaku will come back to Chelsea in the summer

Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta has confirmed that Romelu Lukaku will return to Chelsea once his loan spell ends, but there will be discussions regarding his future.

Marotta also mentions that the Belgian international likes the city and the club. The player himself has made it clear that he wants to stay at Inter.

It will be interesting to see how things unfold when the dust settles into this season. For now, while Chelsea have nothing to play for, Inter are in the Champions League semi-final, and the Coppa Italia Final and are fighting for the top four in the Serie A. So, letting the striker continue his good recent form without external distractions would be good.

Here’s what Marotta said when asked about the future of Lukaku at San Siro (h/t Sky Italia, via Football.London):

“Lukaku is in love with this club and city, so these are important elements to consider, but the player does not belong to us. He is on loan, he will return to Chelsea on June 30 and we will all evaluate the situation together.

“It is important to note that he is a great professional, he has a great sense of belonging and these are key elements that go alongside the technical and sporting considerations.”

After a slow first half to the season where injuries halted his progress, Lukaku has been in good form since the turn of this calendar year.

He has scored two and assisted four goals in the last four league games. These numbers are important in keeping Inter in the hunt to finish inside the top four. His physicality and final-third productivity would be key in crunch games in the Champions League, where we have the Milan derby as the semi-final.

From Chelsea’s viewpoint, what should we do with him? We clearly need a striker after the kind of display we have seen from the supposed goal-scorers this time around.

More Chelsea News:

With Mauricio Pochettino close to becoming the Blues boss, one of his first decisions would be to decide the future of Lukaku. While the player is adamant about staying in Italy, can the Argentine inspire him to wear the Chelsea shirt again and do a job for the team? We can only wait and see that!
