“They have enough”- Arsenal legend says Mauricio Pochettino does not have a huge task at Chelsea

Ian Wright feels Mauricio Pochettino will have a lesser workload at Chelsea

According to Arsenal legend Ian Wright, Chelsea’s new manager Mauricio Pochettino won’t have much work on his plate to turn them into a competitive side.

A relief of breath was taken when the final whistle of Chelsea’s draw against Newcastle was blown, as it marked the end of an abysmal season.

And now the West Londoners will have a busy summer ahead of them, including selling off insignificant players, balancing the payroll, and trimming the bloated roster.

And now that Pochettino has been hired, he will have a big responsibility in getting the team ready for the start of the upcoming season.

Chelsea had a particularly regrettable season, finishing 12th in the Premier League standings despite significant spending by the owners during prior transfer windows.

However, Arsenal legend Wright says Pochettino won’t have enough workload and claims to be the Match of the Day:

“I don’t think he needs to do much because of the calibre of coach he is and how good he is with young players once he organises that team. If you look at what they’ve got, they’ll probably sign a goalkeeper, definitely a number nine, but when you look at what they’ve got, they have enough pieces.”

Wright may be right in this case, but the problem goes much deeper than merely helping the young players. We also need to deal with player contract issues, sign a striker, a custodian, and a midfielder, and sell some peripheral players to reduce the size of our roster.

Following a spate of losses, our players also need their confidence back. Next season, there should be a spirit of togetherness in the locker room to foster a winning attitude. For that, Poch has to come in and figure out his best 111 – and that will leave a lot of players disappointed who get relegated to the bench.

Pochettino will need at least one or two seasons to assemble a successful team. Wright’s comments showcase his confidence in the Argentine but there is no way that he will have it easy at Chelsea. This team may have a lot of players who are not too bad on paper… but that can often be a problem in itself.
