Despite offers from Manchester City, Liverpool, and Chelsea, Barcelona youngster Gavi is keen to stay put at the Nou Camp beyond next summer.
Gavi, who had earlier signed a new contract with Barcelona, had not been registered, making him a free agent during the summer transfer window. Chelsea were keen to take advantage of the situation and secure the youngster’s signature.
However, the 18-year-old has other ideas and is keen to stay put. Having come through the famed La Masia setup, one would expect he has a partiality towards the Catalan giants.
City and Liverpool are also keeping an eye on the Spanish international, while Chelsea were ready to offer a transfer for the youngster to West London.
However, the La Masia product was vocal about his intention to remain in Barcelona and made his feelings very clear while talking to Movistar (h/t Metro)
‘’I want all of you to be calm about my future… I’m very calm. Since I was little, I’ve wanted to stay at Barca; it’s my dream club, as I always say. Don’t worry; let everyone be calm.’’
Gavi was promoted to the senior team of the Spanish giants last season and has since been a regular starter for them. And the 18-year-old has made 46 appearances across all competitions this season.
It’s understandable because he’s an academy product and wants to stay with the club for a longer period of time before deciding on his future. Gavi is a fantastic midfielder, and being the club’s regular starter at the age of 17 demonstrates his potential.
However, he is still a free agent, and nothing is clear about his future because Barcelona have yet to register him, and if they do not, we may be able to sign him in the summer window. Given that we have placed a greater emphasis on signing youngsters, Gavi will be a wonderful addition with an abundance of promise.
