“You’ve got no experience”- Manchester United legend slams Todd Boehly for creating a ‘mess’ at Chelsea

Manchester United legend Gary Neville slams Todd Boehly for creating a mess at Chelsea

Former Manchester United right-back Gary Neville criticised Todd Boehly and suggested he cease interfering in football-related things after the Blues’ 3-1 loss to Arsenal.

Frank Lampard, who had taken on the role of interim coach, oversaw six defeats in his first six games as West London manager. However, their 3-1 loss to Arsenal was more concerning than just a defeat, as the players’ performances raised red flags.

Over the previous two transfer windows, since Boehly acquired ownership of Chelsea, he has spent nearly half a billion pounds on player transfer costs.

However, the American billionaire’s spending has not reaped the rewards on the pitch, as Chelsea lies in 12th place in the Premier League.

On his Gary Neville Podcast, (h/t Daily Mail) the former Manchester United legend criticised Boehly for meddling in football matters and called Chelsea’s performance against Arsenal horrible.

”It all comes from the top. It’s been chaotic and a mess since day one. Boehly has had a nightmare and misread this league. I’m sure he’ll learn quickly.”

”What has happened this season is purely down to him. He needed to keep the football department together. He’s in the non-football department. You’re the owner. You’re not a player or a coach. You’ve got no experience in this league, so stay where you are and allow the people to run the football club who have done so successfully over the last 10 years.”

Gary Neville slams Todd Boehly for interfering in football matters.

The former Valencia manager made a point here: the owner’s only role is to support the club financially and not indulge in any football. And Chelsea’s hierarchy has distinct individuals for each position, including scouting and discovering great players and they can take care of those situations.

Additionally, the manager is present to recognise a player’s attitude and performance if they are not performing to their potential. But eventually, it is reasonable for an owner to run out of patience because consecutive losses become humiliating and make them wonder why their players are struggling.

More Chelsea News:

Premier League football isn’t easy. It seems easy to throw money over any problems that arise but that isn’t always the case. There are other teams with the same goals as us, who are scouting more wisely and spending more efficiently. This is a learning curve, even for Boehly and hopefully, things are smoother in his second full season here.
