Chelsea defensive star to miss Premier League clash vs Manchester City

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard reveals that Benoit Badiashile has picked up an injury and will miss the Manchester City game

Speaking ahead of the game against Manchester City, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard confirms that defender Benoit Badiashile has picked up a groin injury and will miss the trip to Manchester.

The interim boss updated that while Kalidou Koulibaly is back in training and is ahead of schedule in the recovery from his hamstring injury, he won’t be available for the coming game.

The rest is pretty much as it is with the likes of Mason Mount, Ben Chilwell, Marc Cururella, and Reece James. Adding Badiashile to that list is not good news for Lampard and the team.

Here’s what the boss said when asked about the team news (h/t Football.London):

“We’re pretty much similar to where we have been recently in terms of Mason, Reece, Chilly, N’Golo, Marc Cucurella not fit. Kouli has been training this week, but probably not really ready for a game like this. He’s ahead of schedule to be fair. Benoit has injured himself in training two days ago, his groin and will miss the game. We’re assessing that now as we speak.”

To be perfectly honest, Chelsea fans would not have been expecting to get anything from this game even if the squad was fully fit. The away game at City is probably the toughest in the game right now. So, it is more of going there with slim hopes and praying that Pep Guardiola’s men are not at their best.

Getting four points from the previous two games may have restored some pride in the team. The aim should be not to lose by a big margin on Sunday and hope to get something out of the final two games (against Manchester United and Newcastle United).

As much as there is nothing to play for, Chelsea players should know that the fans deserve something before the summer break starts. Lampard must instill a belief in ending this horrendous season on a high so that everyone goes away with a smile on their faces.

Forgetting the result, even competing and giving City a proper game would be considered a positive at the moment. We can only that it happens.
