A View From The Bridge

“It’s my decision”- Frank Lampard explains why he will not let Chelsea starlet play at U20 World Cup

Frank Lampard assures of Lewis Hall having a chance to play for Chelsea

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has assured Lewis Hall of getting his chance in the first-team after blocking his move to play for England in the U20 World Cup in Argentina, starting next week.

Lampard cited injuries as the reason behind his decision to keep Hall for the remaining games of the season. Left-back Ben Chilwell is more or less out for the season with a hamstring injury. Reece James and Mason Mount are in the same boat.

Hall, who can play as a left-back or in midfield, could be a good option for the interim boss in the coming games, starting against Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge.

Frank Lampard assures giving Lewis Hall a chance in the first-team after blocking his move to play in the U20 World Cup.

Here’s what Lampard said when asked about the 18-year-old (h/t BBC):

“It’s my decision [to block him going to the U20 World Cup] that he needs to stay with us for the four games. We’ve obviously got injuries to both our left-backs and that leaves us in a position where we want and need Lewis.

“Lewis has a chance. I was tempted to put him on last week but given the nature of the game, the experience of Azpi [Cesar Azpilicueta] was more suitable at that point.”

Although Lampard’s men have nothing to play for the remainder of this campaign, they need to finish it on a high after a horrendous last nine months. The win over Bournemouth last week may act as a springboard to get some points on the board before the campaign finishes.

All of their remaining games are against teams that are fighting for something though. Forest will come to the Bridge on Saturday to get a point or three as they fight to survive in the division. The away game to Manchester City will see Pep Guardiola’s men looking to get the much-needed three points to take another step towards coronation.

The last two games against Manchester United and Newcastle United may impact the race to finish in the top four. With Liverpool breathing down the neck, neither of the aforementioned sides can afford to lose games anymore.

More Chelsea News:

It would be interesting to see if Lampard can spur a positive end to the season. Seeing Lewis Hall potentially getting an opportunity should be an exciting prospect as well.
