Interim manager Frank Lampard advised his players to have wine or beer to celebrate Chelsea’s 3-1 victory over Bournemouth.
Chelsea secured an important victory thanks to goals from Conor Gallagher (9), Benoit Badiashile (82), and Joao Felix (86), moving them up to position 11 in the Premier League standings.
It was a suitable way to win his 100th game as a Premier League manager, and it was the 44-year-old’s first victory as Chelsea’s interim manager after losing six straight games since his appointment.
The former Blues midfielder advised his team to rejoice with wine or beer and also described the win as a little step forward, but also warned them not to relax heading into their final four games of a disastrous season.
After the game, (h/t Daily Mail), Lampard told a press conference:
“They should enjoy it, and we’re happy because when you don’t have that feeling for a while, it gradually knocks you down. I’ve been in relative periods where they’re tough, so absolutely they should enjoy tonight and have a beer or a glass of wine or do whatever they do.”
It was a statement victory, and we completely deserved the three points. The result will undoubtedly relieve Lampard and the players of some of the burden they have been under this season.
We completely controlled the game, having 66% of the possessions to their 34%, and had five shots on goal. A few players were also at the peak of their games, and Noni Madueke stood out for his confidence on the ball and willingness to challenge opponents.
Conor Gallagher and Benoit Badiashile were other noteworthy performers. Hopefully, we can put in the same performance in our remaining games and end the season on a positive note. This is, of course, an occasion to be happy about but we can’t keep celebrating small wins like this.
The aim has to always be competing for titles.
