Frank Lampard has determined that Chelsea needs to be more fearless in attack, In order to win games and close the gap to finish as high as possible in the table.
Chelsea finally claimed a victory after going winless in nine games and suffering six consecutive defeats under interim manager Frank Lampard.
Conor Gallagher gave Chelsea the lead, but Matias Vina equalised for Bournemouth. Despite numerous opportunities, Chelsea largely continued to play poorly. However, goals from Benoit Badiashile and Joao Felix gave them a much-needed win after a protracted goal drought.
And 44-year-old, who looks set to leave the team in the summer, has stated that Chelsea will need to be ruthless in front of goal. And speaking to the press conference, the 44-year-old said Chelsea were dominant through the game but needed that final touch, (h/t Independent) and further said:
“We controlled a lot of the game. Without the killer instinct, we were running inside their box a lot in the first half; we had a lot of overloads on the side of the pitch. And as this team develops or as we add to the squad, I think you have to have more killers at the top end of the pitch.”
The primary issue for Chelsea has been that we have lost the majority of games due to our inability to take advantage of scoring opportunities. And Lampard’s perspective is even more valid; we must be ruthless in our pursuit of the goal, but we lack a player who can be decisive there.
Kai Havertz has continued to be ineffective, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has not been used enough. Next season, we’ll need a natural, merciless striker with an excellent knack for scoring goals. We have scored just 34 times in as many league games this season… and to think we were once a team that pushed the 100-goal barrier during the mid and late 2000s.
We haven’t had trouble creating chances. A new playmaker will help but as of now, we have more or less suffered because the chances haven’t been taken. Lampard’s words can be taken as a plea to get a world-class striker. Or, Mykhaylo Mudryk, Noni Madueke and David Datro Fofana can be developed into prolific scorers.
We have already invested so much on wingers, so why not work on the players we have?
