Despite a disappointing season under new management, Frank Lampard claimed Chelsea can still bring in top-tier players. The Blues have struggled to win games since the dismissal of Thomas Tuchel, and they currently sit 11th in the Premier League rankings.
Todd Boehly, the American billionaire who took over West Londoners as its new owner, has invested over £500 million in the last two transfer windows.
On Saturday, the club will face Nottingham Forest, with the Champions League already out of reach for next season. In addition, with no Champions League, Chelsea will have to manage their finances carefully to make sure not to violate Financial Fair Play rules.
And it will be only the second time since 1996–97 that they will not compete in a European competition. While it is a setback, it now gives us the time to restructure and realign the club’s vision and long-term mission.
However, despite no Champions League for next season, interim manager Lampard claimed the Blues can still entice top players. (h/t Athletic) (Subscription needed) When asked if he would join the West Londoners if he were a big player, he commented:
“My own life experience is a reason. I signed for Chelsea when we were a top six team, and little did I know it, but 13 years later, when I left, I came out with medals and trophies all over the place because of how the club moved forward (Lampard won 11 major trophies between 2001 and 2014, including three Premier Leagues and the Champions League).”
“A lot of big clubs go through this process in some shape or form, and the more successful you’ve been, the more headlines it gets when you come into that (bad) moment. The club just needs to take every step forward as it goes.”
What Lampard stated is correct; every club has an uphill battle, but it is not constantly long-lasting, as we have witnessed our rivals have a terrible season for many periods, and this is our last bad season (hopefully), and with the proper manager next season, we can expect to get back to winning ways the following year.
There was much optimism when the new owner took over. While their well-meaning but hasty decision hampered our season, it’s time to move on and concentrate on the next season. The only way is after all up.
