Chelsea interim manager Frank Lampard claims that he has no remorse about returning to the club for a second spell on the sidelines. A legend as a player, his stint on the sidelines is at best a mixed bag.
The Blues are enduring an abysmal start under the 44-year-old, losing every single game since he took over. They will travel to the south coast in 12th place, tied with Bournemouth on 39 points. An eighth straight setback at the Vitality Stadium could tie an unwarranted club record from 1952.
Lampard also had a poor spell as Toffees manager, losing his final 10 games across all competitions before Everton fired him in January. While we love him as a player, it is difficult to understand what prompted Todd Boehly to re-hire the Englishman.
The 44-year-old is the most recent English manager since Arthur Cox to accomplish such an undesirable feat since 1988. Clearly, Lampard is far from world-class when it comes to managing a team.
However, (h/t Express), the former Blues midfielder claims he has no regrets about taking over Chelsea’s job and said:
“I have no regrets. But maybe I will think differently when I move on. I don’t want to be an interim manager in my next job. I don’t have regrets. I’m very happy to be here working and absolutely will work until the last point to do anything I can to help.”
We cannot hold him responsible for most of the problems because the owner has made several wrong decisions and makes signings without a proper plan in place. It is just sad, and we are going through a difficult time. It will take some time for our new owners, who have never been in charge of a football team, to fully understand how things operate. Hopefully, it will not be too late by then.
Because our players are discouraged and require incentives to start excelling on the pitch, we just hope that our next manager will first evaluate the team before assuming the managerial post.
Lampard can have some leeway regarding the struggles. However, he was brought in to improve our fortunes and will have known what he was up against. To call him completely faultless in the whole enterprise is a misnomer.
