“His arrival at Chelsea could be confirmed next week”- Journo makes welcome claim about 22-year-old PSG target

Franco Fernandez reveals Manuel Ugarte could join Chelsea next week

Journalist Franco Fernandez has confirmed that Manuel Ugarte could join Chelsea from Sporting CP in a huge money transfer.

Chelsea are close to signing a defensive midfielder on a six-year contract, despite claims that the teenager was on his way to PSG, but an unexpected grab by the Blues could see the 22-year-old join Chelsea.

Both clubs are willing to pay the Uruguayan’s £52 million release clause. According to reports, the midfielder has stated his desire to play in the Premier League, which would be an obvious blow to PSG’s chances, who have been confirmed Ligue 1 champions recently.

This season, the 22-year-old has risen to fame, and top European clubs are already lining up to sign him. The midfielder has already played in 31 league games this season.

And Uruguayan transfer insider Franco Fernandez has claimed the Blues are top contenders to land the midfielder and a deal could be done in the coming week, (h/t Express) despite PSG’s interest.

“Manuel Ugarte was on the bench [against Vizela], he did not see minutes waiting for his future for the transfer period. His arrival at Chelsea could be confirmed next week.”

It will be a terrific deal for the club that can get the Uruguayan for a lower fee, and if Ugarte has improved in quality at such a young age, think how much further he can advance into an accomplished defensive midfielder under Mauricio Pochettino.

We have to prepare for life without N’Golo Kante as well, whose injuries have rendered him ineffective for long parts and his future at Stamford Bridge is up in the air. Jorginho was sold to Arsenal in January already.

More Chelsea News:

Chelsea will benefit a lot from this new addition but they have to keep in mind that there should be a couple of experienced heads in midfield to guide these youngsters and provide leadership. It is good to invest in quality youngsters and Ugarte is every bit of that – but not at the cost of the club’s success in the present, especially a club of Chelsea’s size
