A View From The Bridge

Crystal Palace want to onboard versatile Chelsea teenager for next season

Crystal Palace are considering a loan move to sign young Chelsea star Lewis Hall in the summer

As per Daily Mail, Crystal Palace are exploring a loan deal to sign young Chelsea star Lewis Hall during the summer transfer window.

The 18-year-old won the Best Academy Player of the Year Award at Chelsea on Sunday but has got limited game time under different managers this season.

Looking at the numbers, the England U20 international played 823 minutes in all competitions for the senior side but played a lot more for the various youth sides.

A few days ago, it was reported that Chelsea refused to release Hall for the U20 World Cup in Argentina because Frank Lampard wanted options going into the final few games after injuries to the likes of Reece James and Ben Chilwell.

The 18-year-old did start at left-back against Manchester United last Thursday and Newcastle United on the final day of the season. He can play there and do a good job in midfield as well.

The Blues have confirmed the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino as the permanent manager. It remains to be seen whether the likes of Hall will get regular playing time under the Argentine next season.

Lewis Hall might benefit from a loan spell at a fellow Premier League club.

If that is not the case, then it would make sense to let him go on loan to Crystal Palace. We saw how well Conor Gallagher did at Selhurst Park during his loan spell in the 2021/22 campaign.

If Hall can go there and replicate that sort of impact, Pochettino may have an added versatile option in the squad ahead of the 2024/25 season. He can play anywhere down the left flank and anywhere in central midfield. What’s more, he is also an option to use as a third centre-back in a back three.

But it would be good from the player’s viewpoint to potentially play regularly for a Premier League club and gain valuable experience. He can use that in his future stint at Chelsea hopefully. Hence, a move to Palace, who are also based in London, isn’t a bad idea at all.
