PSG star Neymar is expected to depart the team as a result of fan unrest, (h/t Sun) and Chelsea are one of the teams interested in signing the 31-year-old.
The Blues have been keeping an eye on Neymar’s situation and are eager to bring the Brazilian superstar to Stamford Bridge. The former Barcelona forward is considering ending his career at Paris Saint-Germain in response to the protest from fans who were yelling insults close to his home.
PSG are also eager to offload their most expensive player during the summer transfer window. It’s also known that Todd Boehly, a huge Neymar admirer, is interested in his services.
Neymar was having a fantastic year before it was cut short by another injury. In 23 Ligue 1 games, the 31-year-old had 13 goals and 11 assists before being forced to sit out the season.
Chelsea, meanwhile, are having its worst season ever with only one victory in eight games under temporary manager Frank Lampard and is currently 11th in the Premier League standings.
Former PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino is anticipated to take over the club ahead of the upcoming season, and will be central to the club’s rebuild.
Since we currently have enough attackers and will have even more next season with the arrival of Christopher Nkunku, adding Neymar doesn’t seem like a wise move.
And with Pochettino to become the Blues’ manager next season, whose system demands intense press he will be more likely to focus on offering opportunities to youngsters, its unlikely Neymar will be happy with his game-time due to his big personality.
It would be prudent to sign him on a loan if PSG agreed to pay half of his salary as well. If he does well, we may consider replacing him with Joao Felix, whose loan ends in the summer. However, Neymar’s bigger than life character and attitude is certainly something we could do without.
