Wesley Fofana opens up on Chelsea FC’s abysmal season

Wesley Fofana expressed his frustration at Chelsea FC’s poor season in what has been an injury-ravaged campaign for him at a personal level. Fofana was one of the most expensive signings during the previous summer window, with Chelsea paying £70 million for the centre-back.

However, his debut season was not what the Blues had hoped for. The 22-year-old later suffered a long-term injury that kept him out of the majority of the games.

However, the Frenchman made a strong comeback and is today among our best defenders on the roster. Fofana can hopefully kick on and continue to improve in the seasons to come.

The former Leicester City star defender has made only 14 Premier League appearances this campaign. The Blues have three important games coming up against Manchester City, Newcastle United, and Manchester United. Hopefully, we can send the season on a high.

In an interview, Fofana expressed his disappointment with the club’s performance, telling Sky Sports (h/t Daily Mail):

”It’s difficult for everybody because you see Chelsea in this position, and for sure everybody is not happy. But it’s football. Some seasons, you are good. Some seasons, you are bad. Everybody is staying focused for next season now, to train more and push more to return to a high level.”

We have been extremely unlucky with injuries this season, and it has played a major factor in throttling our expectations. Injuries to numerous key players have left us with no depth in the team, leading to rash purchases as new signings take time to adjust at the club.

Fofana’s frustration is justified given what every Blues supporter has been through this season, and the change in managers has also had an impact on playing style. But there’s no point in blaming now since the season is almost over and we only have three games left.

Hopefully, next season will be different, and because instant gratification will not be forthcoming, we will have to be patient and trust Mauricio Pochettino’s stewardship.
