Chelsea star Raheem Sterling praised by Frank Lampard after scoring a brace against N Nottingham Forest
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard heaped praise on Raheem Sterling after the forward scored a brace in a thrilling 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest.
In a game where Forest had everything to lose, Taiwo Awoniyi gave them a perfect start with a goal in the 13th minute. Things changed after half-time though.
Sterling scored a brace in the space of seven minutes (51st and 58th-minute the timing of his goals) to turn the game around. Awoniyi equalised for the away side three minutes later and the game ended with that scoreline.
When asked about Sterling’s performances and goals after the game, here’s what Lampard said (h/t Football.London):
“It’s important. Raheem’s a player that has credit in the bank as such. He’s been a regular scorer for his club and country. I’m very happy for him. It’s what we need at the top end of the pitch. If you’re going to win games when you have 76% possession, you need killers on the pitch.”
A point does nothing for Chelsea as they stay 11th in the league table, seven adrift of the top half. With how tough the remaining games are, it is highly unlikely that the Blues will finish inside the top 10 this season, which can be cast as another low.
The only positive is that after conceding early, the team showed some sort of fight and restored the lead, only to get pegged back by the opposition.
With games against Manchester City, Manchester United and Newcastle United to come, Chelsea fans would not be expecting a lot of points from these.
What the team can do is try and put up a fight and show something to the fans before we part ways for a summer break. Whether that will be possible against teams inside the top four is another question.

Coming back to Raheem Sterling, it must be a good feeling for him to score some goals and gain that confidence ahead of the next season. He has confirmed that he will stay here. Chelsea will need him to be at his best from August onward.
