Chelsea star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is thinking about playing for the national team once more, (h/t Daily Mail), following a sincere plea from the president of Gabon to come out of international retirement.
Ali Bongo Ondimba, the president of Gabon, whom Aubmeyang met, pushed the 33-year-old to resume playing for Gabon. The former Arsenal star retired from international football one year ago following a 13-year tenure with the national team, in which he scored 30 goals in 72 appearances.
Aubameyang holds the record for most goals scored in Gabon’s history and is the only player from the nation to have been honoured with the African Footballer of the Year gong.
However, Aubamyenag might reconsider his decision because his family has a close relationship with the president of Gabon, who might persuade the 33-year-old to start playing again for his country.
The 33-year-old’s club career has also been subpar, and his signing by the Blues in the previous summer transfer window—Chelsea—has proven to be a terrible one. He has scored just one goal in 15 Premier League games and is thinking about leaving the club in the summer.
Aubameyang is unquestionably a legendary Gabonese player. We hope he returns to international football and brings success to his country, as only a few African players have had a similar impact on their international teams.
But it’s unfortunate that his Chelsea career did not turn out as expected. However, if Thomas Tuchel had stayed at the club, the result would have been different given how well Aubameyang performed under German guidance, scoring 79 goals in 96 appearances.
However, and now we could have to sell him during the summer transfer window, as he also made this feeling clear on leaving the club. Hopefully it will be an amicable parting of the ways.
