Chelsea confirm injured Benoit Badiashile will be ruled out for an extended period
Premier League giants Chelsea have revealed that centre-back Benoit Badiashile will be out for an extended period of time after tearing his hamstring.
The 22-year-old will be sidelined for the near future, according to club specialists, who believe he may require surgery.
Badiashile joined the club in January when Todd Boehly spent nearly £300 million on new acquisitions, and despite playing only 11 games, the 22-year-old has been noteworthy at the back. However, he may also miss the club’s pre-season under new manager Mauricio Pochettino.
But, with Levi Colwill expected to return to the club after a loan spell at Brighton Hove Albion, the Blues will have options who can come in and make up the numbers. Colwill has been instrumental in helping Brighton reach the Europa League for next season and is ready to take the next step in his career.
According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea have issued a statement in which they revised the length of his injury and stated:
”Benoit Badiashile has sustained a hamstring injury, which will rule the defender out for an extended period.”
”The 22-year-old underwent assessment with specialists earlier this week, and Benoit will now begin a rehabilitation programme with the club’s medical department.”
Chelsea have been cursed with injuries, as most of the time their best players have been sidelined in recent times. Badiashile, despite playing fewer games this season, he was tremendous at the back, and his performance would have assisted in properly preparing for next season under the new management, but it is now possible that he will miss a number of matches next season, including pre-season.
But we have adequate depth at the back, which is a positive thing, and the return of Colwill, who will undoubtedly fill in for Badiashile. The Frenchman is a potentially world-class defender and will hopefully come back stronger from his setback.
