Fabrizio Romano has hinted that Chelsea have highlighted Moises Caicedo as perfect partner for Enzo Fernandez
Chelsea have scouted various midfielders, according to Fabrizio Romano (h/t Football.London), who also mentioned Moises Caicedo among the midfielders the Blues are keeping an eye on and also as the ideal partner for Enzo Fernandez.
The Blues will be seeking to sign an experienced defensive midfielder to pair with the Argentine midfielder’s ability to flourish as an attacking midfielder.
Fernandez has been effective for the Blues, but his creativity has been hindered by a lack of help from other midfielders.
And the West Londoners are said to have identified Caicedo as one of the midfielders who can help the former Benfica player. Meanwhile, despite signing a new contract with Brighton Hove & Albion the 21-year-old is expected to leave in the summer transfer window.
Apart from Chelsea, Arsenal are among the possibilities, and the Gunners previously filed a proposal to sign the Ecuadorian midfielder, but the Seagulls rejected it, forcing Arsenal to buy Jorginho in the winter transfer window.
Meanwhile, N’Golo Kante’s repeated injuries had left Chelsea without a defensive midfielder, with Enzo frequently filling in as number six.
The 2022 World Cup champion definitely needs a teammate in midfield who can combine with him in games; against Manchester City, we saw how he was without help and even furious when he had no one to play in attack, forcing him to play the ball back several times.
Caicedo, 21, might make an excellent partner, acting as a sweeper and allowing Fernandez to move farther up the pitch while supporting him from behind.

The Ecuador international possesses similar skills to Kante, and his addition is certain to boost our defensive midfield, as he has Premier League exposure and also helped Brighton reach the Europa League for the first time in the 121-year history of the club.
This could be a step up for him – and for Chelsea, a new youngster who almost guarantees a 7/10 every time he steps on the pitch.
