Chelsea star Ruben Loftus-Cheek is edging closer to joining AC Milan

Serie A powerhouse AC Milan are close to reaching a deal with Chelsea for midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, the Serie A team has been in direct communication with the midfielder and is currently close to striking a long-term contract agreement.

Loftus-Cheek graduated from the Chelsea Academy and was a member of the 2020–21 Blues team that won the Champions League. However, he has fallen down the pecking order and will struggle for regular game time at Stamford Bridge.

Since making his professional soccer debut, the 27-year-old has made 155 appearances, tallying 13 goals and 18 assists across all competitions. The midfielder, who has made 33 appearances in all competitions this season.

If his transfer to Milan goes through, it will result in a reduction in the size of the team’s roster, as the club will look to get rid of more players. Both teams are negotiating his fee, and prior reports said Milan was prepared to offer roughly £22 million for the midfielder.

The Blues are determined to balance the budget after spending excessively in past windows, so other players will also be sold in order to shrink the squad size. Loftus-Cheek can be deemed expendable given the names on our roster.

This will open up fresh opportunities for the England international, who will be reunited with his former teammates Olivier Giroud and Fikayo Tomori as well as begin a new chapter of his life at a new club. And given how great Giroud and Tomori have been for Milan, we’re convinced Loftus-Cheek will be a quality addition for Milan, as he is a versatile midfielder.

More Chelsea News:

His contribution to Chelsea has been enormous, but with the club trying to add more young players, it will be difficult for the 27-year-old to play enough games there. Therefore, transferring to Milan is unquestionably the right choice for him.
