Chelsea star Joao Felix has responded to speculation surrounding him regarding a move to Newcastle United after it was revealed that the Magpies are about to make a $100 million (£87 million) approach for his signature.
Felix’s future at Chelsea is unknown since the Portuguese player’s desire to play in the Champions League will attract numerous suitors next summer. The Blues will not take part in Europe next season, potentially hampering their chances.
Spanish giants Atletico Madrid wants £80 million to sell him on a permanent deal. Chelsea, so far have shown little interest in meeting the asking price.
This presents a chance for the Magpies to swoop in and land the Portuguese international. Felix has performed admirably for Chelsea, scoring three goals in 13 Premier League outings.
According to Football.London, the 23-year-old has put an end to any speculation about him joining any club after Portuguese source Eleven Sport posted on Instagram. Felix took exception to the report and made his feelings clear in a reply.
We will only get a clear idea about Felix’s future when the summer transfer window opens. Chelsea will have to make a firm decision on whether or not to sign him permanently. The 23-year-old has clearly demonstrated what he is capable of in only half a season and there is much promise.
Mauricio Pochettino, who is known for his offensive style of play, will undoubtedly benefit from Felix, and the Argentine coach can also assist him to improve his off-the-ball abilities.
But nothing is guaranteed regarding his future as of now, and the Blues have shown no intention of paying Atletico’s asking price, so it will be known when the transfer window opens.
