“A winning coach” Chelsea hierarchy confident of Pochettino’s track record

Chelsea reveals the reason for hiring Mauricio Pochettino

The Chelsea hierarchy appears to have faith in their appointment of Mauricio Pochettino as the club’s new boss. The Argentine is largely seen as the ideal candidate to take the club forward.

After speculation over his announcement, the Blues said Pochettino will take over the team on July 1 and has signed a two-year contract with an additional 12-month option.

The former Tottenham Hotspur manager will bring Sebastiano Pochettino, a sports scientist, as well as assistants Jesus Perez, Miguel d’Agostino, Toni Jimenez, and his son Sebastiano Pochettino, with him to Stamford Bridge

Additionally, the 51-year-old will collaborate on transfer planning with fellow sports executives Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley. On paper, there is enough backroom support in place for the Blues to rebuild their fortunes.

The Chelsea administration also disclosed why they hired the former Paris Saint-Germain head coach, (h/t Evening Standard).

“Mauricio’s experience, standards of excellence, leadership qualities, and character will serve Chelsea Football Club well as we move forward. He is a winning coach who has worked at the highest levels in multiple leagues and languages. His ethos, tactical approach, and commitment to development all made him an exceptional candidate.”

“The sporting team conducted a diligent and thoughtful process that the board is proud of. We are delighted that Mauricio will be joining Chelsea. Mauricio is a world-class coach with an outstanding track record. We are all looking forward to having him on board.”

Following a disastrous season that witnessed manager hires and firings, hopefully, Pochettino’s arrival will usher in a new era for Chelsea. there will undoubtably be doomsayers who will point to his less-than-impressive spell at Paris Saint-Germain. But then Thomas Tuchel too went through the same ordeal before cementing himself in Chelsea folklore.

More so, Pochettino previously managed a London club that had less financial support from the board but consistently finished in the top four of the Premier League, while also making the UEFA Champions League final. Surely with better resources at his disposal, he can do one better.

However, many might argue he couldn’t lead PSG filled with superstars, but even Carlo Ancelotti and Unai Emery couldn’t, who later won European trophies with Real Madrid and Villarreal, respectively, so it was also the club that had a dysfunctional board.

The jury will be out on Pochettino in his first season in charge. Hopefully, he shuts up the detractors and proves once and for all that he is indeed among the elite managers of the era.
