Frank Lampard suffered his sixth defeat as Chelsea interim manager against Arsenal
Frank Lampard endured his sixth defeat as Chelsea interim manager in the 3-1 loss to Arsenal. But the club’s board is still keen to retain him until the end of the season to honour his legacy.
There is an argument that Chelsea could also gain from the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino before the end of the current season (h/t Daily Mail). The Argentine could make use of the extra time to familiarize himself with the squad and build up the culture he seeks.
They believe that nothing can be salvaged from the season and it is a lose cause. Lampard’s legacy as a player remains intact but that as a manager is far from ideal.
The Blues, who are now in 12th place with 39 points, are embroiled in chaos. They still have five games left, several of which are far from easy on paper.
On Saturday, they will play Bournemouth, who are one point behind them. A loss will see us plummet further down the table, falling as low as 14th depending on results.
As Lampard appears clueless and has miserably failed to motivate the players for the games, it would actually be a better idea to appoint Pochettino right away. Lampard’s stock has taken a mighty hit given his recent track record at Everton and now Chelsea.
We currently have nothing to lose, and if Pochettino is hired, he will assess the team and with remaining games to see which players need to develop and who needs to be traded. Additionally, he will be able to narrow down the bloated squad and give Todd Boehly a vision for the future.

Even if we lose, it won’t be a big deal since he’ll know exactly what to do moving forward. For now we are a rudderless ship with a captain who has no idea how to steer the wheel.
