Speaking to the press prior to the match against Arsenal, Frank Lampard has revealed that Chelsea are lacking in both performance and confidence.
Under Todd Boehly’s ownership, Chelsea are in turbulent shape and have already fired two managers. In addition, they have signed an excessive number of players, which has led to a bloated roster.
Lampard has the worst record in the club’s history with five losses in his first five games as Chelsea’s interim manager. It makes his first spell with the club look world-class.
The Blues’ next match is against arch-rivals Arsenal on Tuesday night, and a loss there may cause them to drop even farther in the Premier League standings. Chelsea still have six games left until the season is up, and if they lose any of those games, they might be at risk of being relegated.
Speaking to the press before the Arsenal clash, (h/t BBC), the 44-year-old revealed why Chelsea are enduring a poor season and said:
“Low on confidence and low on performance,” “can only work to get a level of performance that will get confidence back.”
There are several reasons why Chelsea’s season has turned out to be one of the most disappointing ever. Thomas Tuchel’s dismissal, under whose leadership we were excelling, was the catalyst for everything.
His dismissal shouldn’t have happened, and when Graham Potter took over, the team was plagued by injuries. It led to the signing of several players, making it difficult for Potter to perform training or give pep talks in the dressing room with too many players.
Nevertheless, we were still playing well under the former Swansea City coach, only for a poor run of form to see him get fired. And these losses have undoubtedly harmed the players’ confidence since they believe that despite doing all they can, the team is still lacking somewhere, which leads to losses.
Additionally, Todd Boehly should be criticised for his shoddy decision-making, which has been one of many things. Due to both his bad choices and his impulsive player signings, Chelsea are in terrible form.
And Lampard’s appointment is another poor decision because he is not a top-level manager and has a dismal track record at Chelsea and Everton. He will undoubtedly bear the weight of this bad season. Now, all we can do is wait and hope that we win the remaining games to finish the season as quickly as possible.
