Brentford among PL clubs interested in signing 21-year-old Chelsea forward

Brentford among the Premier League clubs interested in Chelsea striker Armando Broja

As initially reported by Simon Phillips (tweet by Chelsea.News) (h/t Football.London), a number of Premier League clubs are interested in signing Chelsea and Albania striker Armando Broja in the coming summer transfer window.

The report reveals that Brentford and Brighton and Hove Albion have a keen interest in the 21-year-old, who hasn’t played since the World Cup after picking up an ACL injury during the mid-season friendly game against Aston Villa.

It is also updated that it is unlikely Chelsea will sanction a sale. After Ivan Toney is confirmed to miss eight months of football till January 2024 for breaching the FA betting regulations, it is understandable why Brentford are keen on signing a new striker in the summer.

Broja had a fantastic loan campaign at Southampton last season before returning to Chelsea in the summer. The Albanian international played only 466 minutes of football in all competitions in the first part of this season.

Given how badly Chelsea needed a striker, had Broja not been injured, there might have been a chance for him to add on to those minutes since January.

The club’s Academy product could be an important player from next season onward. Although Chelsea are planning moves to sign a striker in the summer (Napoli’s Victor Osimhen was recently linked), Broja’s involvement in the squad could be key under the incoming boss Mauricio Pochettino.

If the aforementioned report is right about the Blues not interested in sanctioning the Albanian’s sale; it would be the right decision. The 21-year-old should get chances under Pochettino to show what he can do.

That is especially the case given our goal-scoring troubles up front and the desperate need for a new No. 9. Why spend millions when the solution could be right under our noses? It’s a long stretch, but we can’t rob Broja of his chance.

All in all, an important summer is upon the club, with player sales an important part of the work they need to do. With no European football, will attracting top players be a problem? We will wait and see.
