Chelsea monitoring Serie A shot-stopper with Premier League experience

The recruitment team at Chelsea are monitoring Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny

As per Italian outlet Calciomercatoweb (h/t Football.London), the recruitment team at Chelsea are closely monitoring the future of Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Blues are also interested in Inter Milan stopper Andre Onana as they look to bolster that department before the start of next season.

Coming back to Szczesny, the former Arsenal keeper’s future in Turin seems to be in doubt. His current contract there expires next summer as well (Transfermarkt).

Chelsea are monitoring Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny ahead of the summer window.

Juventus were hit with a 10-point deduction on Monday that pushed them down the table and left them with no chance of qualifying for the Champions League next season.

Although if Chelsea make an offer to sign the Poland international and we know they will also not play that competition next season, there might be a case of the player willing to change clubs for a fresh start.

Szczesny is now an experienced international goalkeeper who is very good at shot-stopping and is decent with the ball on his feet.

Chelsea currently have two international goalkeepers in Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy. Both have had a fair crack at claiming the opportunity to become the team’s number one for years, but things haven’t worked out. The latter had a good first season at the club back in 2020/21. Since then, it has not been the same.

It isn’t rocket science to say that if a team wants to succeed and climb up the ladder in elite football, having an experienced and very good goalkeeper is important.

More Chelsea News:

If the keeper is good, it gives confidence to the defenders, which in turn passes onto the midfielders and forwards. The team can also push higher than normal knowing they have a secure presence at the back. Szczesny has that in him to become Chelsea’s number-one in the coming seasons.
