Chelsea will need to fork out £40m to secure Brentford star David Raya

Thomas Frank, the manager of Brentford, asserted that the club would welcome a bid of roughly £40 million for David Raya, amidst interest from Chelsea and Manchester United.

Chelsea will need to bring in a new goalkeeper ahead of the new season. Edouard Mendy has fallen down the pecking order while Kepa Arrizabalaga has flattered to deceive.

Chelsea have expressed interest in several shot-stoppers, with Raya among them. Mauricio Pochettino could do with a reliable last line of defence as he plots an overhaul at Stamford Bridge.

The Spanish goalkeeper’s contract, which is set to expire in the 2024–23 season, has not yet been extended. His performance this season has drawn interest from Premier League clubs that Raya may be eager to join.

And the Bees head coach has now confirmed Raya’s asking price in a post-match press conference, (h/t Metro).

‘’I think we only have one player for sale. I think. Or that’s the one that’s been talked about a lot, David. And he’ll cost £40 million, I think I said.”

‘’Of course, we are a selling club; I don’t think that’s a secret. But they need to be crazy high amounts for the players if we want to have anyone leave.”

Raya has been outstanding for the Bees this year, and with Chelsea interested in signing him, he would want to play for a major club that can provide him with a European challenge. And United will undoubtedly provide that for the upcoming campaign, but his signing could only come for them if David De Gea is leaving the club.

And for Chelsea, they will be undergoing a construction period that will see the change of plenty of things at the club, maybe a season or two.

However, if Chelsea are able to acquire him, they will have to trade either Mendy or Kepa to make room for him. But even if we don’t get the Spanish custodian, we still have Keylor Navas and Andre Onana as alternatives.
