Serie A honcho pours cold water on Chelsea’s hopes of securing prolific marksman

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis claims he won’t sell Chelsea target Victor Osimhen

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has declared that he won’t sell Victor Osimhen in the summer transfer window, despite interest from Chelsea and Manchester United.

The 24-year-old attacker had a successful season, helping Napoli win their first Serie A championship since 1990—the year of Diego Maradona. Following their 1-1 draw against Udinese, Napoli were declared champions, setting off joyful celebrations in a city that hasn’t had a triumph like this since Diego Maradona’s heyday.

And the Nigerian striker stole the show once more as he scored Napoli’s equaliser on the night. Since making a name for himself at Napoli, Osimhen has become the most sought-after striker in Europe.

While Romelu Lukaku’s future is unclear, the Blues are prepared to sell Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang next summer. Chelsea has been atrocious in front of goal and need a new number nine going forward.

De Laurentiis has made it clear that the former Lille striker will not be sold despite being linked to clubs like United and Chelsea (h/t Metro) saying:

‘I will not sell Victor Osimhen this summer—no way.’

Maybe he doesn’t want to sell the Nigerian international, but if clubs start making enormous offers, he might change his mind. Chelsea have shown in recent windows how money is not an issue for the right player. But surely, we will be more prudent now sans the UEFA Champions League riches.

Both Enzo Fernandez and Mykhaylo Mudryk were brought in for big money but neither has yet stood out. Can we strike it right on the third time of asking with Osimhen?

Given that Napoli won the scudetto, they are in a joyous mood and may not be interested in selling. We’ll have to wait and see what happens during the summer window. Whether it is Osimhen or someone else, there is little doubt that a new striker is needed.
