AC Milan have kept Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek as their priority target this summer, player is keen to move
According to a tweet from transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Italian side AC Milan are considering a move for Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek. The Englishman is their priority target in the summer transfer window.
The other revelation is that Loftus-Cheek is keen on a move to San Siro and the deal will be a permanent one. The clubs are in talks over the crucial details of this deal.
The 27-year-old’s contract at Stamford Bridge expires next summer. As per Guardian a few days ago, Todd Boehly and co. are looking to offload players who have entered the final year of their contracts, unless an extension is possible. That report was about Mateo Kovacic, but it is viable for Loftus-Cheek as well.
This was another season of what if for the England international, who managed to play only 1763 minutes in all competitions so far. He was in various positions, be it in midfield or as a wing-back.
Things have not worked out for him in a Chelsea shirt. He has had decent loan spells at Fulham and Crystal Palace, but it was not converted into something big at Stamford Bridge.
So, while the Blues have to cut the squad count after buying 15 players in the last two transfer windows, getting rid of Loftus-Cheek would have made sense irrespective of that situation.
The technical quality and versatility he has could be suited to the Italian league. The 27-year-old is still a good player who might do well with a slight change in the scenery.
