“They have a lot of problems”- French pundit gives verdict on Chelsea vs Real Madrid clash

William Gallas give his verdict on Chelsea’s clash against Real Madrid

According to former Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur centre-back William Gallas, Chelsea are experiencing a turbulent period and will suffer when they play Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu in the Champions League’s quarterfinals.

Chelsea are in a state of confusion as they take on one of the favourites in the Champions League after being winless in their last three games.

In the Premier League, they are now in 11th place and have a negligible chance of making the Champions League the following year.

Two managers have been fired since Todd Boehly took over ownership last year. Now, Frank Lampard has been named as the team’s temporary manager for the rest of the campaign.

They seem to be in a dismal situation, and playing Real Madrid would only make things tougher for them. The Spanish team is struggling in La Liga as well, but they are a different team when they compete in the Champions League.

And Gallas expressed a similar opinion while speaking to Genting Casino, (h/t Football.London), as he said:

“Chelsea are not doing too well at the moment; they are not performing for many reasons. But in the Champions League, they have performed very well. Now they play Real Madrid, who are in the same situation because they cannot win La Liga. So they will put everything into the Champions League.

“Last season, they won it, and we know how strong they are. It will be a difficult game for Chelsea; they have a lot of problems.”

The Blues may have a difficult game, but Real Madrid will not have it any easier either. In the past two years, we played Real Madrid and demonstrated our competence. Despite this, they prevailed last season with a 5-4 aggregate scoreline in the Champions League round of 16.

Despite their underwhelming performances in La Liga, they may change their attitude to compete in the Champions League. And Chelsea are in a similar predicament, but in the Champions League, they also had different outcomes. In 2020–21, we were experiencing difficulties but went on to win the competition, just as we did in 2011–12.

More Chelsea News:

Lampard saw some glorious Champions League nights himself as a Chelsea player. He knows what is needed in these games. Real Madrid have shown time and again what they are capable of, but we should have a big enough sample size of how they play under Carlo Ancelotti to try and completely negate them this time around.

Being patient and not getting irritated when the score is level will be the first place to start. Taking the game to the second leg at Stamford Bridge with the scoreline level or even trailing by just one goal will not be a bad situation by any means against a team of their ilk. Then, we have the home fans to count on and that can make all the difference when a team knows what result they need in a game to qualify.
