Troy Deeney urges Liverpool against signing Chelsea duo Conor Gallagher and Mason Mount
Troy Deeney has encouraged Liverpool to hold off on signing the Chelsea duo of Conor Gallagher and Mason Mount this summer because he doesn’t think they will have a significant impact on the team.
The contract negotiations between Mason Mount and Chelsea are becoming a story since the midfielder has failed to extend his agreement with the Blues, which runs out in 2024.
Gallagher still has two years left on his contract, and the Anfield team is keeping an eye on both midfielders for the upcoming summer. Losing them would be a poor blow for Chelsea indeed, especially to a direct rival.
However, negotiations to extend Mount’s contract are ongoing, while Chelsea seems unwilling to extend Gallagher’s contract at Stamford Bridge.
Deeney, though, thinks Liverpool shouldn’t sign both players since they are merely younger iterations of those already on the Anfield roster. He said so while speaking to the Sun (h/t Metro).
“It seems as if Liverpool are keen to sign Mason Mount and Conor Gallagher from Chelsea. Now, they are two decent players and a lot younger than their current midfield, which clearly needs some refreshing.”
“But those two are not players who would go to Anfield and change the whole mood of the club. They are more like younger versions of what Liverpool already has.”
Liverpool wants to recruit both of them because they are both terrific midfielders with the potential for success. They might fix their midfield problems with Mount, who has outstanding skills and can also score goals. Mount would also get along well with Jordan Henderson considering they both played for the Three Lions.
For Gallagher, though, it would be unlikely considering that the England international hasn’t had much of an impact since joining Chelsea. However, his talent is undeniable and Jurgen Klopp is just the man to get him ticking the right boxes.

However, we should think about trading Gallagher if a lucrative offer comes in, and if at all feasible, we should extend Mount’s contract. Either way, we hope we come off the better side in any situation.
