A View From The Bridge

PSG and arch-rivals eyeing a move for 30-year-old Chelsea playmaker

Tottenham Hotspur and PSG want Chelsea star Hakim Ziyech

According to French outlet Jeunes Footeux, Tottenham Hotspur and PSG are keeping tabs on Chelsea star Hakim Ziyech with the player pushing for a move away from the club.

The Moroccan midfielder is attracting interest from a host of clubs, including West Ham United, Real Betis, Sevilla, Fenerbahçe, and Besiktas.

Ziyech, who had a successful stint at Ajax, arrived at Stamford Bridge in 2020 with high expectations, but things haven’t gone as planned. He has struggled to become a regular starter under any Blues manager.

His playing time has been limited this season, with just 569 minutes of league football to his name. It is no surprise that the 30-year-old playmaker is now keen on leaving the club.

Despite his lack of playing time, Ziyech is a top-quality player, capable of making something out of nothing in the final third. His silky dribbling skills and excellent vision make him a dangerous attacking threat, and his passing skills are of the top degree.

He was instrumental in helping Morocco reach fourth place at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where he showcased his immense talent on the international stage. We just haven’t been able to fit him well in our team and it seems that the time has come when we must cash in on him rather than lose him on a free transfer.

However, there could be concerns over his age, especially with regard to handing him a potentially big contract could be a risk for any club. It is a hurdle that Tottenham and PSG would have to consider if they were to make a move for him.

Concerns over his fitness could also act as a stumbling block for interested clubs. The talented playmaker has not really had the rub of the green when it comes to injuries in recent seasons.

Let’s see what happens to Ziyech. It will be a huge surprise to see him stay here beyond this season but stranger things have happened in football. Only time will tell how this pans out.
