A View From The Bridge

Todd Boehly provides honest appraisal to players ahead of Real Madrid clash

Todd Boehly gives pre-match pep talk to Chelsea squad ahead of Real Madrid clash

According to the Telegraph, Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly delivered a pre-match team talk to the squad talking about the ’embarrassing’ position they are in.

Chelsea have lost all of their three games since appointing Frank Lampard as the interim boss. It is as if sacking Graham Potter has made no change to the way the team play.

The alarming thing was the way Brighton and Hove Albion dominated them at Stamford Bridge and deservedly beat them in the league on Saturday.

Todd Boehly gave a pre-match team talk to the Chelsea squad ahead of the Real Madrid clash.

Amidst the addressing of the embarrassing situation, Boehly tried to give his talk a positive tone by saying that they must overturn the two-goal deficit against Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final to keep the season alive and give the fans something to be happy about.

The American did not hide himself in any glory when he predicted that Chelsea would beat Madrid 3-0 in the first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu. Instead, the European champions schooled the Blues and easily won by 2-0.

As much as special things have happened at the Bridge in the past, chasing a two-goal deficit against this Madrid side is like asking them to score another four or five.

Hence, Lampard cannot set the team to go full throttle from the first minute. They need to stay in the tie for as long as possible before going for it with the help of the crowd.

While Boehly and his team have made some bizarre decisions during their first year in charge of the club, the players must take more responsibility for what has happened on the pitch. They cannot just hide away from some of the lacklustre displays we have seen throughout this season.

We can only hope that they turn up for the special game against Madrid and give it a right go even if the odds are stacked against them.
