Pundit backs Frank Lampard to usher Chelsea star out of Stamford Bridge

Stan Collymore believes Frank Lampard can convince Mason Mount to leave Chelsea

According to Stan Collymore, Frank Lampard may have a significant impact on Chelsea star Mason Mount leaving the club in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The 24-year-old’s contract ends at the end of next season. While several Premier League teams are already interested in signing him, the midfielder and the club are yet to reach an agreement on a new contract.

However, it was anticipated that Lampard, a former midfielder, may persuade Mount to extend his contract after being named Chelsea’s temporary manager. After all, it was under him that Mount made a name for himself initially on loan at Derby County.

Collymore, though, asserted that a fictitious dialogue between Lampard and Mount might persuade the player to leave Chelsea. It will not come as a surprise given that the Blues are on a downward trajectory at this moment.

And now, Arsenal have learned of other parties interested in signing the England international. Collymore, (h/t Express) in a piece on his Caught Offside blog, said:

“Frank Lampard, interestingly, may have swayed it in his favour. Which might sound odd, but if Mount’s advisors say, He’s not signing a new contract, and then he goes to Frank. What do you think?’ Don’t forget Frank Lampard went up to Manchester City late in his career and enjoyed that experience of being in a different place.”

While Lampard and Mount are undoubtedly close, he was recruited to help the team finish the season on a positive note because this has been one of their worst seasons. However, there may have been some discussions between Lampard and Mount; nonetheless, because the former Everton manager will go in the summer when a new manager takes over, we can never be sure.

The 44-year-old who also played for Manchester City will have no bearing on Mount’s decision to leave for another team, considering Lampard is a Chelsea great and would like Mount to stay in West London.

Furthermore, Mount may get more playing time the next season if the new manager decides to employ him because he certainly knows the midfielder’s credentials. We can only hope that he will renew and stay at the club, even though the future of his contract is questionable right now.
