Paul Parker has urged Chelsea to appoint Mauricio Pochettino as Graham Potter’s successor
Notwithstanding his failure at Paris Saint-Germain, former Chelsea and Fulham defender Paul Parker has recommended Chelsea appoint Mauricio Pochettino as Graham Potter’s replacement for the upcoming season.
Frank Lampard has been hired as Chelsea’s temporary manager till the end of the current campaign. The Blues are still looking for the right candidate who they believe can restore Chelsea to its former glory.
Chelsea have already fired two managers this season due to their appalling performance under them. They are now in 11th position, outside the top four, and will play Real Madrid in the Champions League’s last eight.
There is now no certainty over who will manage the team permanently next season, although Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann are the leading contenders.
But Paul Parker reckons the former manager of Tottenham Hotspur would be a perfect manager for Chelsea. (h/t Football.London) In an interview with SpilXperten, he said:
“I think that Chelsea should do everything in their power to get Pochettino. He is the perfect manager for them. People were criticising him after he left PSG, which is miserable. That club is outrageous, and if you’re not winning the Champions League, you’re going to be sacked.
“The last person I want to watch at Chelsea is Jose Mourinho. And I don’t think that Chelsea wants him back for the third time. They are tired of his arrogance, and they have to move on, even though it would be typical for Chelsea to do something like that and hire him.”
Both managers have worked in the Premier League, but they are quite different from one another. With Mourinho, we could see rapid results and would battle for titles in the same season. Pochettino, meanwhile, could need time to construct his system around new players.
Yet, many would dispute that he was the coach of the fantastic Paris Saint-Germain squad but was unable to guide them to the Champions League. But many top coaches have come and gone at PSG, including Tuchel, because of their impatience to succeed in Europe.
Pochettino showed at Tottenham Hotspur that he can do the best with what he has got. We already have a squad overflowing with talented young players for a manager to work with. Our most coveted new signing, Enzo Fernandez, will have no language barrier with Poch as well. These are just small things to consider.

Overall, Mourinho hasn’t had the rosiest past with Chelsea and burned some of his bridges when he became Spurs’ manager. His enigmatic personality brings with it drama and spectacle that we can do without. Poch seems like a safe option but let’s not forget there will be options outside just these two names as well.
