“He will finish his career at Barcelona”- Mateu Alemany makes confident claim about Chelsea target

Mateu Alemany is certain that Barcelona will register Gavi despite interest from Chelsea

Mateu Alemany, the director of football at Barcelona, is convinced that the club will sign Gavi as a senior player despite Chelsea’s desire.

Chelsea have already spoken with the agent of the young player, and Barcelona, who are having trouble signing players, may let one of their promising prospects depart for free this summer.

Barcelona were denied permission to sign Gavi by La Liga because they couldn’t adhere to the salary budget rules when the youngster’s £7 million-per-year salaries were taken into account.

Barcelona director is certain that Gavi will be registered on new contract.

Consequently, the 18-year-old has been listed as having a Juvenile A contract and may be available during the summer transfer window.

This has caused Chelsea to turn their attention to young players. And as a result, Todd Boehly and the agent of the Spanish player are planning to have a second conversation.

And now Liverpool and Manchester City are rumoured to be interested, despite Barcelona director Alemany’s certainty that Gavi will finish his career there. (h/t Metro) In an interview with DAZN, Alemany said:

“Gavi renewed at the time for four seasons, and he has three more to go. For sure, he’s going to honour his contract. What’s more, we are convinced that not only will he fulfil his contract, he is going to finish his career at Barcelona. That’s what he wants, what our fans want, and what we want.’’

Gavi has been handed jersey no 30 after Barcelona failed to register

Barcelona are in serious trouble, and in order to acquire new players and make new purchases, they had to sell the rights to their television programme.

They will now be seeking to sell players in order to balance the wage structure, and they will once again need to find a salary structure to register Gavi, which will be very challenging for them given La Liga’s rigorous financial regulations.

More Chelsea News

Alemany is certainly making big claims in his comments but if it was that easy, Gavi would have already been on his new contract without any undue pressure from La Liga. It could just be a way to ease tension amongst the fanbase and not spoil the party for when they win the league title.

Whatever the situation may be, Chelsea must be vigilant. The moment there is a chance to sign the young Spanish midfielder, they should be all over it. If Barcelona failed to keep Lionel Messi on board in 2021, nothing can be said about how poor their finances could be. There is always hope for Gavi’s potential suitors.
