German international Kai Havertz admits that it is not the player’s call to decide who replaced Graham Potter as the new Chelsea manager.
The 47-year-old was fired by Chelsea seven months after his appointment, following a 2-0 loss to Aston Villa. Bruno Saltor, who has taken interim charge, saw the club endure another frustrating result as they drew 0-0 with Liverpool on Tuesday night, which keeps them 11th on the table.
The Blues came close to breaking the deadlock but Havertz missed an opportunity. He also saw a goal ruled out much to the home side’s frustrations.
Chelsea are actively trying to hire a manager and have been in communication with former Spain boss Luis Enrique and ex-Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann.
The German international, (h/t Daily Mail), stated to Sky Sports after the game that finding a new manager is not the players’ responsibility. That lies wholly with the management and Todd Boehly.
‘First of all, I have to say it is really nice, and we have to respect Bruno and the coaching staff for standing in front of the team when the manager got the sack,’
‘The club has to respect those guys. But it is not our job to think about who is coming in; it is up to the owners to decide that.
‘We have to do our job on the pitch, but when you have a long-term manager, it is easier for us players.
Every club would like to appoint a successful manager; therefore, the managerial merry-go-round is a common occurrence in football. Given the terrible results this season, Potter’s dismissal was a long time coming.
Meanwhile, under interim manager Saltor, we saw another poor result against Liverpool. The Blues came so close on multiple occasions to scoring a goal; we were a superior team to Liverpool, and we should have taken the three points.
There is undeniable proof that we need a striker for the upcoming campaign. Perhaps showing that we do not and already have a goal-getter in the ranks is Havertz’s job. Surely that is his responsibility.
