Romano says Premier League club will demand €40m for 27-year-old Chelsea target

Fabrizio Romano reveals Brentford goalkeeper David Raya is yet to extend his contract with Chelsea lurking

According to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in acquiring Brentford goalkeeper David Raya, whose contract ends in 2024, (Transfermarkt).

Raya, who rose to prominence at the Bees, is coveted by several elite Premier League teams, including Chelsea. The 27-year-old has started 30 Premier League games for Brentford this season, keeping nine clean sheets.

While it is believed that Raya offered a contract extension to the Spanish international, no agreement has been reached so far. And with the fear of losing him for free in 2024, the Bees could contemplate selling him in the summer transfer window.

Furthermore, the 27-year-old plans on leaving the club in the summer, according to transfer writer Fabrizio Romano, who also claimed that Brentford has stated its asking price.

According to Romano, Brentford would demand €40 million (£35.4 million) to approve a transfer. At the same time, manager Thomas Frank has spoken about the possibility of losing his first-choice keeper and claims that if he does not sign a new deal, he wants to leave the club.

Chelsea and Spurs may engage in a transfer competition with one another at that point, as both teams are trying to replace Kepa Arrizabalaga and Hugo Lloris, respectively.

Raya has continued to play exceptionally well this season, making the most saves per 90 minutes in the Premier League (4.1). He will also be a worthy addition because of his fast reflexes and good ball distribution.

Meanwhile, Kepa continues to struggle between the sticks and frequently surrenders simple goals. He just doesn’t look like a world-class player and a long-term solution for our problems in goal. Edouard Mendy, meanwhile, has fallen out of favour and the Senegal international is linked with a move away from the club.

In the case of the Spurs, Hugo Lloris is approaching retirement age as he is 36 and may depart the team in the near future. So, Tottenham certainly need a top-class goalkeeper.

More Chelsea News:

Given that Chelsea compete for trophies more frequently than Spurs, who have not won one since the 2007–08 season, we could be the team that can promise him a better chance at silverware. But to promise him playing time, which would be important to him, we must get rid of either Kepa and Mendy (or both)..
