“Complete no-brainer”- Pundit gives his verdict on Chelsea choosing Frank Lampard as caretaker manager

Jamie Redknapp say Frank Lampard has unfinished business at Chelsea

Jamie Redknapp asserted that choosing Frank Lampard was an analytical choice because he believes he still has unfinished work at Chelsea.

As Chelsea hunt for a permanent manager, the 44-year-old will assume control of the team as interim manager till the end of the current campaign. Lampard was also seen last Saturday during Chelsea’s 0-0 draw with Liverpool.

Lampard will reportedly take over the team’s practice sessions prior to the club’s match against Wolves on April 8.

The former Everton manager has been considered a temporary solution, while the Blues have also been widely linked with Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique recently.

Redknapp told Sky Sports that choosing the former Chelsea player as a manager is a “no-brainer,” (h/t Football.London), and further said:

“This might make sense for the owners just to have a bit of breathing space and give Frank the opportunity to get back in the game. He’s got unfinished business at Chelsea; he loves the club; nobody cares about that club or knows it better than he does.”

“I think this is a complete no-brainer if Chelsea were to go for him and he’d take the job, I think it would be brilliant for him.”

Although some could argue that Lampard’s selection was a mistake, Chelsea can still benefit greatly from it. Because of the squad’s present disarray and the numerous issues Chelsea had under Potter, he won’t have lofty standards to match.

A bloated team, players dissatisfied with their playing time or contracts, and poor individual performance are what Lampard could be inheriting. It also explains why the club has decided not to choose a new manager just yet for the interim role.

Lampard knows the club inside out. He can give Todd Boehly a proper in-depth review of the situation and hold the fort until the Blues make a permanent call. If he does well, then great. If not, no one really expected him to do wonders here anyway.

Who knows, maybe he can stick around in some capacity if and when we get a new boss. Being an interim boss or a potential assistant manager will be a step down for the former England international considering he was our head coach for a while. But it could be necessary for him to get his career back on track in a more comfortable environment.
