Rival legend sounds out his backing for Frank Lampard following Chelsea return

Ian Wright claims he is worried about Frank Lampard returning to Chelsea

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has claimed he is worried for Frank Lampard following his temporary appointment at Chelsea till the end of the season but wishes him well there.

Following the firing of Graham Potter, Chelsea named Lampard as temporary manager as they still search for the ideal candidate to replace Potter at the helm.

The Blues feel that by hiring the 44-year-old, they will have ample time to select Potter’s replacement for the club. Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique are two of the top contenders for the position.

The former Everton manager got off to a rough start with a 1-0 loss to Wolves on Saturday. And the team now will face Real Madrid in the last eight of the Champions League.

Ian Wright feels worried about Lampard’s appointment as Chelsea’s manager.

Nevertheless, veteran Ian Wright questions if the midfielder should have accepted the offer and whether he can be successful there considering his disappointing time at Everton. (h/t Metro), The former Crystal Palace icon said on his Wrighty’s Home podcast:

‘’I messaged him before his appointment, and hopefully we’re going for a drink soon. Then I saw Lampard was being linked with the Chelsea job, and it’s really difficult for me because we’re close.”

‘’I’m just worried for a friend. Does this move help him? How does it help him? Is he doing it as a favour? Does he want to get back into management right now?”

However, many fans found the hiring of Lampard as interim manager to be unexpected and he has time to make things right and hopes Chelsea finishes the season on a positive note.

Nonetheless, the club’s only attention is still on the Champions League, as its chances of finishing in the top four of the Premier League are now gone.

More Chelsea News:

He still has a lot of games to manage, so one bad performance shouldn’t define his managerial acumen. If he leads Chelsea to the Champions League trophy and they finish high in the league, it will undoubtedly boost his reputation in Europe and may even overshadow his previous unsuccessful managerial tenures at Chelsea and Everton.
