Guus Hiddink suggests who Todd Boehly should make Chelsea manager

Guus Hiddink urges Todd Boehly to make Frank Lampard the permanent Chelsea boss

Speaking to the Telegraph, former Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink has suggested the Blues ownership to give Frank Lampard the job on a permanent basis.

After a series of underwhelming results, Graham Potter was sacked by the club on Sunday. Three days later, Lampard was appointed as the manager on an interim basis till the end of this season.

The suspicion is that this appointment will give the Blues enough time to finalise their process of hiring a permanent manager in the summer. Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique have been approached for that.

But, Hiddink thinks Lampard, whose previous stint at Chelsea did not end well, should get the job full-time. Here’s what the experienced Dutch coach said (h/t Telegraph):

“Honestly, I would like him to be considered not just as an interim coach.

“But also to be given the confidence to continue with the project next season.

He knows the club like nobody else and it’s important to give continuity to things.

“Like anyone, Lampard is going to need time. Chelsea have invested a lot of money but now need to adapt to an idea.”

Not sure about this Guus! Lampard’s CV as a player is in stark contrast to what he has done in management so far. His time at Chelsea started well but petered out quicker than anyone anticipated.

Something similar happened at Everton, where he started well and saved them from relegation last season. But, when it was about building on that, the standards dipped.

So, while we can expect him to get the tune out of the players on an interim basis, things may not be the same once he is announced as the permanent manager to take things forward.

For Lampard, it is important that he does this role well first and do the hard yards at some other club before being in contention to take a job as big as Chelsea on a permanent basis.

We hope that the owners do not get lured by any good work the club legend does and are sure about the man they want to appoint in the coming summer.
