Regardless of whether Chelsea choose to hire Mauricio Pochettino on a permanent basis this season, Frank Lampard is expected to remain in the position as interim manager until the end of the current season.
The former Blues player was named temporary head coach, (h/t Daily Mail), as Chelsea’s management required more time to identify the ideal candidate to lead the Stamford Bridge team.
The West Londoners sacked Graham Potter, who oversaw just 31 games. The 44-year-old, though, has lost his first four games since his hiring, and now the club has only seven games to play before the season concludes.
Since his hiring, the Blues have interviewed Luis Enrique, Julian Nagelsmann, and Mauricio Pochettino. It is believed that the former Southampton manager is expected to assume the helm of Chelsea for the upcoming campaign.
As occurred last week with Julian Nagelsmann, the former manager of Bayern Munich, Chelsea was unable to come to an agreement.
There was another unknown manager on the list, as well as Vincent Kompany, who led Burnley to Premier League promotion in his first stint as their manager. They are now headed for the Championship title.
This seems like a smart idea because it would prevent Pochettino from facing undue pressure from fans and media if things don’t go well for him instantly. That would mean he arrives in the 2023-24 campaign with added pressure. With the way that we currently are, one can envisage we won’t do very well under any new boss until season’s end.
Therefore, it would be prudent for him to take over prior to the start of the upcoming season, as he would have ample time during pre-season to get familiar with the players and establish his philosophy with the team.
But that doesn’t mean isolating the Argentine from the team. If appointed in the coming weeks, we must allow him access to the training in some form and ensure he is in contact with players so he can already start to decide what he wants and what he doesn’t for the next season. It would be wasting time otherwise if we get him to sign papers and freeze him out from the club’s processes until the end of the campaign.
With seven games remaining and nothing left to lose, we should let Lampard continue until the end of the season in the hopes that we do not finish lower than tenth.
